Customized eLearning programs

Challenge

  • Bridging the Training Gap

  • Controlling and Managing the Diverse Set of Training Programs

  • Lack of Administrative Control

  • Cultural Barriers

A leading manufacturing giant spread across 30 different nations and with over 70 manufacturing facilities that manufacture specialist products using carbon, advanced ceramics, and composites, wanted to meet stringent training targets. The purpose behind achieving such an ambitious target was to bring consistency, accomplish high safety performance, and ensure localization.

Having a diverse set of manufacturing units across important South East Asian centers, they set about creating and developing digital training programs that would allow their stakeholders to take safety training programs in their native language. The idea was to build such eLearning programs that were consistent and universal across all units but, at the same time, could be absorbed seamlessly across all units.

They set out to underline as many as 12 different safety training (topical) programs critical to their safety training goals. These training programs (or courses) would be made digitally available so stakeholders could take them remotely. They also wanted clear and measurable outcomes through well-researched assessments.

Solution

  • eLearning Course Development by taking client’s current document references

  • Creation of Highly Engaging Content

  • Multilingual Capabilities

  • User Friendly UI

TECH EHS created content customized to suit the clients’ industry requirements.

The initial rollout involved manufacturing units across China, South Korea, Japan, and India with below eLearning training programs.

  • LOTOTO

  • Machine Guarding

  • Electrical Safety

  • Fall Protection/Working at Height

  • Confined Space

  • Accident Investigation and Prevention Techniques

  • Driving Safety

  • Flammable Liquids

  • Work Permit

  • Warehouse Safety

  • Gas Safety

  • PIV- Power Industrial Vehicle or Forklifts

These courses were meticulously developed using actual references from manufacturing units. We used prevalent characters, backgrounds, landscapes, machinery, and layouts that would resonate across all units. A healthy dosage of 3D animated videos was added to the training courses to lend extra credibility and impact. With each of the courses having a judicious mix of activity-specific hazards, control measures, incidents / near misses, and preventive protocols, TECH EHS was able to blend all the elements to create highly engaging course content.

Another addition was using existing SOPs, training material, and process documents to ensure audiences were sensitized to accurate training programs.

The icing on the cake was the localization of each training program. Each of the 12 programs was available in English and carefully converted into local languages (including Mandarin / Native Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and regional Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Gujarati) to ensure that none of the messaging got lost in translation. Furthermore, these translations were done at both levels—in the narration and the user interface.

Outcome

There has been a notable increase in productivity, resulting in fewer man-hours lost, and greater awareness among workmen has been achieved, yielding significant returns on investment.

The client has reaped the benefits of high-end course development and programming, so much so that they plan to convert their training modules into eLearning formats.

Within the first year of operations, the client could cover 80% of stakeholders through their remote training vertical. This was a substantial increase of a whopping 50%* over previous year averages.

To cap it off, the graphical representations and highly engaging content ensured an information retention rate of over 90%*. This was unprecedented in training annuls and accomplished simply because of a rich vein of content (2D/3D animated clips, actual manufacturing unit models and characters, and real-life scenarios).
