Developing an Animated Safety Induction Film for Etihad Rail Infrastructure LLC

The company is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the UAE Federal Railway Network, a monumental infrastructure initiative connecting Abu Dhabi to the wider UAE rail network.

As the backbone of the country’s freight transport infrastructure, Etihad Rail manages multiple freight terminals across the UAE, ensuring safe and efficient movement of goods. With a workforce comprising multinational employees and contractors, maintaining consistent safety communication across sites was a top priority for the organization.

Etihad Rail sought to develop a 10-minute animated safety induction film that could be used uniformly across all Etihad Rail Freight Terminals. The goal was to visually communicate critical safety protocols, emergency guidelines, and site-specific operations to all employees, contractors, and visitors.

When TECH EHS was approached with the brief, each freight terminal had its own operational character: unique layouts, distinct equipment, and specialized workflows. Capturing this diversity in a single film demanded precision and storytelling clarity.

The safety film had to transcend language and cultural barriers, relying heavily on visual storytelling to ensure comprehension for every viewer. Simultaneously, every detail in the script, from PPE instructions to emergency responses, had to align strictly with Etihad Rail’s HSEQ framework. This meant proper approval cycles, technical reviews, and content validation.

The entire project was executed remotely, requiring seamless coordination between the TECH EHS production team and Etihad Rail’s HSEQ Department in Abu Dhabi. Every storyboard, voiceover clip, and visual asset had to pass through virtual review sessions and meet uncompromising quality standards.

TECH EHS animation team designed a structured creative workflow that merged accuracy with engagement. The process began with an in-depth safety audit and script research, followed by the development of a storyline that followed a worker’s safety journey through a freight terminal from entry to high-risk activities. This approach made complex safety information relatable and easy to retain.

Realistic 3D terminal models were created to represent freight operations, hazards, and emergency controls visually. Each scene was storyboarded in consultation with Etihad Rail’s HSEQ specialists to ensure visual fidelity and operational accuracy. A professional English voiceover was recorded and complemented with Arabic subtitles.
